‘I don’t think there is a more beautiful way of commemorating life, love and death than with flowers. All beautiful things must come to an end, but may be immortalised through paint.’

Beth Ellison is a contemporary painter, working primarily with oils. She grew up in Northamptonshire but currently lives and works on the North Coast of Cornwall, UK.

Flowers have always been the centre of Beth’s work. Whilst she is not only drawn to their natural beauty and ethereality, her work is rooted in the belief that they can hold a whole spectrum of emotion. As Beth’s practice develops she becomes increasingly fascinated by how she is able to capture this through paint.

Beth paints in a way that is personal and intuitive. She prefers to work on her paintings whilst they are still wet, allowing the individual brush marks to respond naturally to each other. This also creates the sense that there is only a finite time that each painting is ‘alive’, reflective of her subject. Her work is often lead by the feeling she hopes to capture in each piece.
